# Will the solar outdoor cameras work without the HomeCortex?

Good day,

Good question , AOSU actually makes **two types of camera systems** :

1. **Standalone Wi-Fi cameras** (like the ones I have), which connect **directly to your Wi-Fi** and work without a HomeCortex at all.
2. **HomeCortex kits** , where the cameras are specifically paired with a HomeCortex. In that case, the cameras **won’t work independently** , they rely on the HomeCortex for connection, storage, and sometimes AI features. Even if you have strong Wi-Fi, they can’t connect without the HomeCortex because they’re not designed to work on their own.

So if your kit came with a HomeCortex, it has to stay connected for the system to function. But if it didn’t, you’re likely using the standalone version, which works just fine over Wi-Fi.
