I bought a wireless doorbell camera ( aosu 5MP Ultra HD) in Amazon. It says the battery life is 180 days, but it’s only about 2 months after fully charged. There’s not that much activities outside, only about one event per day in average. I wonder if that’s because I am unluckyly bought a bad one?

Poor WiFi signal Weak signal causes the doorbell to keep trying to connect and power consumption rises sharply. Check WiFi signal strength, below -65dBm a repeater is required.

Low ambient temperature Low temperatures (<10°C) can also reduce battery efficiency. Frequent viewing of live video can also be power hungry, it is recommended to view live when there is event activity triggered to reduce power consumption.

The Aosu 5MP Ultra HD doorbell is rated for up to 180 days of battery life, but that estimate is based on very minimal activity (typically around 3–5 events per day with short recording durations, under optimal conditions).

Since you mentioned you’re only averaging one event per day, it does seem unusual for the battery to last just 2 months. That could indicate either:

  1. Background activity (motion being detected but not notified, these still consume power),
  2. Poor Wi-Fi signal, which can cause the camera to use more power trying to stay connected,
  3. Low-temperature conditions, if applicable , cold weather can significantly reduce battery performance,
  4. Or potentially, a battery health issue with your unit.

Here’s what I recommend:

  • Check the signal strength in the Aosu app (under device settings → Wi-Fi strength). If it’s weak, consider moving the router or using a Wi-Fi extender.
  • Review motion settings: Disable overly broad motion zones and set detection sensitivity to “low” or “smart.” I mean afterall you only want it to pick up people on your porch/infront your door
  • Ensure firmware is up to date in the app.
  • Charge fully and monitor how long it lasts again with these tweaks.
