Important Notice❗️Low Temperatures and Charging Issues? Here’s What You Need to Know

Dear aosu user,

Thank you for choosing aosu products. As winter approaches, some regions may experience extremely cold weather. We’d like to inform you about potential changes in your outdoor solar camera’s battery performance and share tips for optimal use during this season.

Winter Battery Performance Observations
Lithium batteries naturally experience reduced performance in low temperatures due to slower chemical reactions. You may notice:

  1. The battery may not charge or drains quickly (e.g., 100% to 80% rapidly).

  2. Battery levels may drop temporarily but recover as temperatures rise.

  3. Charging may seem ineffective even in bright sunlight.

These are normal behaviors for lithium batteries in cold weather, not product issues. Performance will normalize as temperatures increase.

Tips for Winter Usage

  1. Indoor Charging: Install the camera in an accessible spot for easy removal and wired charging indoors.

  2. Lower Sensitivity: Adjust detection settings to reduce unnecessary recordings and save power.

  3. Solar Panel Check: Ensure the solar panel is connected and unobstructed for better charging.

  4. Battery Check: Test battery health by placing the device indoors at room temperature for two hours, then charge. If it reaches 100%, the battery is fine.

We hope these tips enhance your winter experience with aosu products. For any questions, please contact our online support.

Thank you for your trust and support!

Thank You for the great tips, I would just like to add another thing to consider also. Where I live in Canada the amount of daylight is greatly reduced during winter also, so this advice will help you be prepared!

Thank you so much for your feedback!

yes, that will be a great notice for us to know it more

I run four SolarCam D1 SE cameras, and even after doubling up the solar panels on two of them, using a custom cable, the limited sunlight and overnight lows of -25°C drained the batteries within three days. My workaround has been to power all the cameras permanently. I’m using long, flat USB Type-A to Type-C cables (up to 20 ft) connected to old iPhone power adapters, and the setup has been reliable so far.

Hi, I do the same thing.
But when outside temperature is less than 25 F ,the battery does not charge.

Thanks for informing!

If the Weather conditions will allow, then I have used battery packs for external recharging during winter times with less sunlight.

instead of deinstalling the cameras

I try it with a back up camera battery, but with temperature less than 25 F, it s not working.
