I use Alexa as a major part of my security as it brings together security inputs from manybdifferent sources and displays them on many different devices, important as I am not always tethered to my phone plus it allows these events to be used as triggers for other related actions.
Aosu has an Alexa skill which sends doorbell activations to my Alexa devices. Which works great, but unfortunately does not do the same with motion detection only events (which for me is probably even more important from a security standpoint).
I for one was very pleased with the Aosu products until I was advised by Aosu’s technical dept. That it could not do that.
I don’t know why Aosu made the decision that way unless they feltbitvwould give them a marketing advantage for their product or cloud service, but gor me that becameca big disadvantage, which to me doesn’t make sense.
A possible workaround is to use Home Assistant as a bridge. The idea would be:
AOSU camera → Home Assistant → Alexa or Google Home
If your particular AOSU model can provide its motion events to Home Assistant, Home Assistant can then use that motion event as a trigger and pass the resulting automation to your smart-home system. That could allow you to have a motion detection event trigger an announcement, notification, or another security-related action on your Alexa or Google devices.
Google Home is another possibility. Google supports motion/person-detection events as automation triggers for compatible devices, so if your AOSU model exposes those events to Google, you may be able to accomplish this without relying entirely on AOSU’s Alexa skill.
The exact AOSU model is important, though, because the available integrations and capabilities can differ between models. If you tell me the exact model you’re using, I can look into the available integration options and see what would actually work rather than having you try random workarounds.
Personally, I think the best long-term solution would still be for AOSU to expose motion detection as an Alexa/Google Home event directly. That would be far cleaner than having users rely on third-party bridges just to get an important security event onto their smart-home devices.
