Cameras connected themselves to the wrong wifi

hi, i own the aosu HomeCortex with 3 connected outdoor cameras. recently my connection has been terrible. and i figured out it’s because the cameras have changed wifi networks to my 5ghz network instead of 2.4 . i know this because i own a seperate camera that is connected to the 2.4 ghz network and when i disconnect my 2.4ghz connection that camera doesnt work. but the 3 cameras connected to my HomeCortex still work. same goes for my 5ghz network. if i disconnect that the 3 cameras connected to HomeCortex no longer work. the cameras should be on the 2.4 ghz network but they are on the 5 ghz network. there is no settings in the app to see what network they are even connected to, let alone be able to change the network the cameras are connecting to. there is no option at all for wifi settings in the app, or any of the devices. how would i change these settings if you dont allow me to access them? this is absolutely absurd.

Hey! @jordankboro, Totally get your frustration, the lack of visible Wi-Fi settings can be confusing. Here’s what’s actually happening:

  • The 3 outdoor cameras connected to your Aosu HomeCortex aren’t using your Wi-Fi directly , they communicate with the HomeCortex via a private local signal (not 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi).

  • The HomeCortex itself is what connects to your router’s Wi-Fi, and that’s what’s currently on the 5GHz band.

  • That’s why disconnecting 5GHz breaks the connection, the HomeCortex loses internet, even though the cameras are still linked to it locally.

What you can do:

  1. Switch your HomeCortex to 2.4GHz manually, you’ll need to reset its Wi-Fi connection:

    • In the Aosu app, go to HomeCortex settings → Wi-Fi → (“Reconnect”).
    • Choose your 2.4GHz network during setup.
  2. Disable band steering on your router if it’s combining 2.4GHz and 5GHz under one SSID, this helps you pick the right band.

  3. Check your router settings to ensure 2.4GHz is enabled and broadcasting separately.

Unfortunately, the app doesn’t show which band the HomeCortex is on, but this workaround should help stabilize your connection. Hope that clears things up!
