My camera will only track movement if you literally walk straight toward the front of the camera. How do I fix this?
This is a common concern and usually comes down to motion detection angle and sensitivity settings. Here’s a step-by-step guide to fix the issue where your aosu camera only tracks motion directly in front:
Why it happens
- PIR sensor limitation
aosu cameras (especially battery-powered or solar ones) use a PIR motion sensor, which is most sensitive to side-to-side movement, not direct front-to-back movement.
Walking straight toward the camera often doesn’t create a strong enough infrared change to trigger motion. - Placement angle is too narrow
If the camera is pointing directly outward, it may not detect people approaching from off-center.
The field of view and PIR range may be too focused. - Sensitivity settings are too low
Your motion detection sensitivity may be set too low for the environment.
How to fix it
1. Reposition the camera at an angle
- Don’t point it directly straight out. Instead, mount or rotate the camera slightly so people approach across its field of view, like this:
Effective:
Person walking across the camera view
Less effective:
Person walking directly toward the lens
2. Adjust motion detection sensitivity
- Open the aosu app > select your camera > go to Settings > Motion Detection.
- Set the Motion Sensitivity to High or Highest.
- If there are options like Detection Area or Activity Zone, make sure the relevant area is included.
3. Check firmware & app updates
- Ensure your camera and app are up-to-date to get the latest detection improvements.
4. Avoid placing it behind glass or with obstructions
- PIR doesn’t work well through glass, fences, or thick screens, so make sure it has a clear view.
